Self-Care Resources

It's so important as a carer to take care of yourself; mind, body, and spiritual. It doesn't have to be difficult to implement self-care into your everyday routine. Here are some self-care resources to help you get started or maintain a lifestyle of happiness and good health.

Here are some of our favorite self care tips. Don't forget to check out our full list below! Always remember you can't pour from a empty cup!

Self-Care Tip #1: Start with Sleep!

Taking care of you is the main priority!

Taking care of you is the main priority!

It may be obvious, but start with sleep. On average, Americans get about 6.8 hours of sleep at night. That's 40% of the population getting less than the recommended number of hours of sleep. Sleep is what fuels  us and allows us to be productive physically, alert mentally, and stable emotionally. How do you start a sleep self-care regimen? Start by thinking about your nightly routine. Are you eating or drinking immediately before bed? If so, stay away from caffeine and sugar as they tend to keep you awake.  Another idea would be to minimize phone use before bed allow your mind to wind down before bed. We wish you a restful sleep and sweet dreams!

Self-Care Tip 2: You are What You Eat.

Self-Care Tip 2: You are What You Eat.

The types of foods you eat crucially impact the bacteria that live in your stomach and can affect your overall health.  The food we eat can help us stay healthy or contribute to weight gain or diseases such as diabetes.  Be mindful of how certain foods interact with your body and affect how it works.

An alternate tip would be to cook one of your favorite meals, eat in in your favorite dish, and add your favorite beverage in your favorite glass! Bon Appétit!

Self-Care Tip 3: Say No Sometimes!

Self-Care Tip 2: You are What You Eat.

As a carer, we are always taking care of others and putting the needs of others before ourselves.  Learning to say no can be really hard as we feel obligated to say yes to everyone in spite of feeling stressed and overworked. When we do not say no, we can experience anxiety, burnout, and frustration.

Let's practice politely saying "No" together! On the count of three... One... Two... Three... No... because your self-care depends on it!

Sleep, eat. relax repeat. You can't pour from an empty cup! Be a better you for you!

Rest and self-care are so important. When you take time to replenish your spirit, it allows you to serve others from the overflow. You cannot serve from an empty vessel.”
